Saturday, February 17 at 11:00 am: Baby and Toddler Play Date

Families with babies and toddlers, ages 2 months to three years old, are invited to a big, unstructured play date!

Activities and toys from the library’s Kent Rotary Early Literacy Center will be available to encourage early learning experiences, socialization, and imaginative play.

Tuesday, February 13 from 6:00 – 9:00: Seed Library Packaging Party

Help get the Seed Library ready for planting season by dropping in and packaging seeds that have been donated.  All ages can help out and groups are welcome.

No registration is required.

Saturday, February 10 at 11:00 am: “PAL-entine’s Day” Party

While some people are celebrating Valentine’s Day, we will celebrate friendship with a ‘PAL-entine’s Day’ party for children ages 4 – 12 on Saturday, February 10 at 11:00 am.  Bring your best pal along or make a new friend at the party.

Enjoy making unique cards to give away, participating in activities and games, taking silly photos in a photo booth, and making a snack.

Tuesday, February 6 at 6:30 pm: How-To Eat in Season

The Kent Free Library’s ‘How-To Tuesday’ series continues with a presentation by Kristen Pool, owner of Black Dog Acres Farm. Learn how to make your winter diet more healthy and delicious with fresh, local foods that are still available in Northeast Ohio. Get ideas on how to grow your own produce inside year-round, plus how to stock your pantry with the summer’s best to eat locally all year long. Recipes and samples will be provided.

Saturday, February 3 at 11:00 am: American Girl Spotlight, Addy

American Girl fans in grades K-6 are invited on Saturday, February 3 at 11:00 am to celebrate all things Addy! Bring your Addy, American Girl, or any other doll and learn more about Addy’s time period.

Enjoy fun games and activities that Addy herself would have enjoyed, including human- and doll-sized crafts (for dolls around 18” tall).

Saturday, January 27 at 11:00 am: Hairspray Singalong

Musical fans in grades 6-12 are invited to  a sing-along party featuring songs from the upbeat movie musical Hairspray on Saturday, January 27 at 11:00 am! Belt out tunes along with the movie and enjoy musical-related activities.

Thursday, January 25 at 10:30 am and 4:00 pm: Winter Wonderland Dance Party

Get out of the cold and warm up with high energy dancing on Thursday, January 25. Families with children ages 2 through 4 dance at 10:30 am; children in Kindergarten through 3rd grade dance at 4:00 pm.

Each dance party will last approximately 45 minutes and takes place in the meeting room, which will be decorated with a snowy theme.

Wednesday, January 24 at 7:00 pm: Kent Architect Charles Kistler

The Kent Historical Society will present a program on famous Kent architect Charles Kistler on Wednesday, January 24 at 7:00 pm.

Kent architect Doug Fuller and Historian-in-Residence Rober DiPaolo will share stores about Kistler’s life, work, and his lasting impact on our town.  An eclectic designer, Kistler was the architect of the L.N. Gross Building on Gougler, the Kent Theatre block, the original Roosevelt High School, and the Bissler Block at Main and North River Streets.

No registration is required for this free program.

Monday, January 22 at 6:30 pm: Sustainable Film Series

The City of Kent Sustainability Commission and Standing Rock Cultural Arts are co-sponsoring a series of free monthly films at the Kent Free Library.  A short discussion will follow each screening.

The first is a film by local filmmakers Blue Hole Productions about a journey up the Cuyahoga River to explore northeast Ohioans relationship to the river. Three local filmmakers walk the river from Lake Erie to the headwaters. The documentary seeks to examine how people live within the Cuyahoga watershed today, and how a river might represent them.

Due to licensing restrictions, the library cannot publish the title of films.

No Registration is required.

Sunday, January 21 at 2:00 pm: Free Concert by Kerry Kean Trio

Enjoy a free, all-ages concert by the Kerry Kean Trio!  The Trio plays a wide range of music in the country vein, including classic and modern country songs, along with bluegrass, Cajun and original tunes.

Members of the group share a variety of musical backgrounds and experience, also playing in the Americana group The Bee String Band and the blues and swing band The Hot Potatoes. The Trio came together as a result of a shared love of all kinds of country music, and their joy in playing this kind of music shows in every performance.

No registration is required; however because space is limited, audience members must pick up a pass at the 2nd floor Information Desk beginning 30 minutes before the event.
