The Kent free library offers a Summer Reading Program for kids, teens, and adults!
Children’s Summer Reading Program
Begins Saturday, June 8 and ends Saturday, August 3, 2013
For students entering Preschool – 5th grade.
Upon registering for the summer reading program, children will receive an official reading record to record the time they spend reading, or that someone reads to them. Time is recorded in 15 minute increments, and prizes are earned for every 5 hours spent reading. Please note that time spent reading before registration is not eligible.
Don’t forget that each elementary school is counting on its students to read! Which elementary school will have the most Super Readers this summer? Last year, Davey Elementary School won for the first time, beating Longcoy Elementary.
New this summer: kids that complete 20 hours of reading earn the title of Super Reader and may receive a yard sign to display at their house. Yard signs will be available on a first come, first serve basis until they run out. Let’s see how many Kent Free Super Readers dig into reading this summer!
Just for fun, families are invited to submit a photo of their Super Reader(s) with their yard sign for the library’s Facebook page. Complete information will be available upon earning a yard sign.
Begins on Saturday, June 8 and ends Saturday, August 3, 2013.
For students entering grades 6 – 12.
Teens: for every two books you read this summer you will receive a scratch off ticket – will you be a winner? You may win a book, a dollar off your library fines, free food, or you may have to try again after you have read more books.
Each scratch off ticket will then be an entry for the Grand Prize at the end of the Summer Reading Program. Books read prior to June 8 are not eligible. Grand prize winner will be notified by August 5.
Why should kids have all the fun?
Adult ages 18 and over are invited to register for the Adult Summer Reading Program, Dig into Reading. The program will run from June 1 – July 31.
All you need to register is a valid library card from any public library in Portage County. Stop by any Information Desk to register.
Then start reading and visiting the library! For every book you read and review (review forms are available at the Information Desk) and for every adult program you attend between June 1 and July 31, you’ll receive an entry slip for a raffle drawing for great prizes!
You could win tickets for The Akron Civic Theater, The Great Lakes Science Center, an Akron Aeros game, or the Akron Art Museum or a gift card to the Pufferbelly Restaurant, The Works, Bent Tree Coffee Roaster, Ray’s Place or the Franklin Square Deli!
