How do I get a library card?

Visit any Information Desk in the library to complete an application and present a photo ID and proof of your current address.

Do I have to be a Kent resident to get a card?

Any resident of Ohio with proof of their current address may get a Kent Free Library card.

How do I get a card for my child?

The parent or legal guardian of a child age 17 and younger can apply for a juvenile card by visiting any Information Desk with their library card or a photo ID and proof of current address.

Do I need my library card to borrow materials from the library?

Checking out with a library card is the quickest and easiest way. However, if you do not have your card, we would be glad to look up your account with a photo ID.

Does my library card work at other libraries?

A Kent Free Library card will work at any public library in Portage County, including the Reed Memorial Library in Ravenna and any branch of the Portage County District Library.

What if I lose my card?

Your library card should be treated with the same care as a credit card. If it is lost or stolen, please contact the library immediately so no one else is able to check out materials for which you will be responsible.

How do I log into my account?

Visit My Account and enter your library card number and PIN number.

What if I forget my PIN number?

Please contact the check-out desk by phone or in person to reset your PIN number.

What is the loan period for library items?

Library materials owned by Kent Free Library are checked out for 2 weeks.
They may be renewed two times up to an additional 4 weeks if there are no holds on the item.
Please note that materials from other libraries may have different loan periods.

How are fines calculated?

Kent Free Library materials accumulate fines at .05 cents per day past the due date.
Please note that there may be additional fines and fees for materials borrowed from other libraries.

Can someone else pick up materials on hold for me?

By completing a Consent Form, you can give permission to the person or people of your choice to pick up your holds or access information about your account. Without a consent form on file, library staff is required by state law to maintain the privacy of library cardholders.
