How do I get a library card?

Visit any Information Desk in the library to complete an application and present a form of identification that contains your current street address.

Do I have to be a Kent resident to get a card?

Kent Free Library cards are available to anyone who lives, owns property, works or goes to school in Ohio. Only one card is required for access to all member libraries of the Portage Library Consortium.

How do I get a card for my child?

The parent or legal guardian of a child under 18 years of age can apply for a juvenile card by visiting any Information Desk with a current library card in the Portage Library Consortium or a valid form of identification.

Do I need my library card to borrow materials from the library?

Checking out with a library card is the quickest and easiest method. If you do not have your card, staff can look up your account using a photo ID.

Does my library card work at other libraries?

A Kent Free Library card will work at any public library in Portage County, including the Reed Memorial Library in Ravenna and any branch of the Portage County District Library. Together, the three library systems make up the Portage Library Consortium.

What if I lose my card?

Your library card should be treated with the same care as a credit card. If it is lost or stolen, please contact the library immediately so no one is able to check out materials for which you will be responsible.

How do I log into my account?

Visit My Account and enter your library card number and PIN number.

What if I forget my PIN number?

Please contact the Check-Out desk by phone or in person to reset your PIN number.

What is the loan period for library items?

Most library materials owned by Kent Free Library are checked out for 2 weeks.
Lucky Day materials at Kent Free Library are checked out for 7 days with no renewals.
They may be renewed two times up to an additional 4 weeks if there are no holds on the item.
Please note that materials from other libraries may have different loan periods.

How are fines calculated?

Most Kent Free Library materials accumulate fines at .05 cents per day past the due date.
Lucky Day materials accumulate fines at .50 cents per day past the due date.
Please note that there may be additional fines and fees for materials borrowed from other libraries.

Can someone else pick up materials on hold for me?

Staff is not authorized to release information to anyone other than the cardholder. Adult patrons may choose to allow others to have access to their records, or the records of their minor children. A consent form must be on file at the Kent Free library to allow access to others. The library is required and committed to protecting the privacy of card holders.
