srp3The 2014 Summer Reading Program wrapped up on August 2.  663 kids participated.  Second graders had the highest registration with 114 students in that grade signing up.  174 teens participated in Teen Summer Reading Program.

Kids read for a total of 4,817 hours.  Each hour earned a vote in the Care for a Critter Contest, and the winner was the Hedgehog.  The Kent Free Library will therefore be sponsoring a hedgehog at the Akron Zoo this year.

Teen participants read 934 books and won scratch off tickets with prizes donated by Akron Art Museum, Akron Zoo, Dairy Queen, Dunkin Donuts, Fun N’ Stuff, Insomnia Cookies, KSU Marketing and Communications Department, McDonald’s, Popped, Tree City, and Subway.

Prizes for for younger kids included a magnetic bookmark for reading for 5 hours, a string bag for 10 hours, a grand prize entry for 15 hours, and a Super Reader Yard Sign for reading for 20 hours.  Over 150 readers earned yard signs.

Grand prizes this year were donated by: 4 Cats Art Studio, Midway Twin Drive In, Akron Rubber Ducks, Cleveland Aquarium, Sweet Frog and Cleveland Natural History Museum.  Grand prizes for the teen program were donated by Off the Wagon, Midway Twin Drive In, Target, Sweet Frog, and 4 Cats Art Studio.
