Summer Reading

The 2015 Summer Reading Program, Every Hero Has a Story, was a tremendous success!

790 preschool through 5th grade children registered for the program, which was a new record for the library.  The preschoolers had the most students registered with 124. Students registered read 6,307 hours, which is also a record!

The teen reading program also broke records, with 195 teens signed up, who read 1,018 books.

We moved the finale program, a performance by magician Jason Alan, to the Kent State Hotel and Conference Center in order to accommodate more people.  110 adults and children enjoyed a fantastic show.

In the Care for a Critter contest, the Bengal Tiger received a landslide 2,689 votes, so the library will donate to the Akron Zoo for the tiger’s care this year.

Thank you to the Kent Kiwanis for generously supporting the Summer Reading Program this year.  Thanks also to all the kids who registered and read and made this such a successful year!
