Celebrate the end of the Summer Read with an all-ages beach party! Drop by the library Friday, July 29 between 5 – 7 pm (yes, we’re staying open an extra hour for the fun!).

We’ll have a sand play area and games for kids, sidewalk chalk, adult lawn games and crafts, live music with the beachy sounds of the Akron Steel Drum Band, a balloon artist, Pav’s Creamery ice cream truck, fresh kettle corn, trivia, a Friends of KFL book sale and more!

Youth Services Manager Shelley Hall is ready to celebrate a successful Summer Read. “The previous two years, our summer program and activities were pared down and mostly took place on Zoom,” Shelley recalls. “It’s been great this year to see so many familiar faces that we haven’t seen for a while and meet so many new patrons,” she says. She notes that programs have been filling up and the Dubois Children’s Reading Room is bustling.

“The party isn’t just for kids,” adds Adult Services Manager Kristen Pool. “There will be a lot for adults to do–giant Connect 4 and Jenga along with cornhole and a fun craft decorating a mini canvas with seaglass,” she says. “Also be on the lookout for roaming librarians who will give you a piece of salt water taffy if you can answer a fun ocean-themed trivia question correctly!” she adds.

Shelley and Kristen enjoy events the library hosts where families, adults, and children can all come together and have fun. “It’ll be a great night for everyone to enjoy the ending of the Summer Read,” Shelley says.

Regular library services such as computers, study rooms, and reference and readers’ advisory will not be available after the regular closing time, 6 pm, on the night of the Finale. No registration required.
