Students in Kindergarten through 5th grade can spend 15 minutes reading with certified therapy dog, Bing! Studies have shown that reading to a therapy dog helps reading skills improve. Students who are uncomfortable reading aloud in front of other people can practice reading aloud to a nonjudgmental, appreciative listener, and take that confidence back to the classroom. Reluctant readers enjoy the added incentive of spending time with a friendly dog that appreciates the attention (although Bing has been known to fall asleep). Attendees may choose a book from the library or bring one from home. Registration is required and begins Nov. 12.
