Enjoy a free concert by the Sarata & Lempner Duo on Sunday, June 23, from 2 – 3. Adam Sarata on guitar and Tom Lempner on saxophone delight audiences with a mix of swing, bossa, jazz standards, and even classical compositions.
Adam is a guitar instructor at the University of Mount Union, Ashland University, and the Community Music School of the Oberlin Conservatory of Music. He has released three classical guitar recordings, Guitar
Tom serves on the music faculty at Cleveland State University, Kent State University (Geauga campus), Western Reserve Academy, and Lorain County Community College. He is also a full-time Music Therapist working at both a center for autism and a day treatment center. at Akron, Cavata, and Sul Tasto, as he has also written articles published in Soundboard Magazine and Basically Bohlen.

We’re hosting our 7th annual summer photo contest for students entering grades 5 – 8. Participants should pick up contest rules and entry forms in the Children’s Room. Prints of photos may be submitted at any time until Saturday, July 13. Each photographer may submit two entries.
All photos submitted will be on display in the Children’s Room from July 15 through July 31 for the public to view and vote for their favorites. The photographers of the top vote-getting photographs will each receive Target Gift Cards.

Bring some magic into your summer by making a gnome or fairy house on June 15 at 11:00 am. There is no cost, and all materials and instructions will be provided.
Space is limited and registration is required. Sign up starting Saturday by stopping by or calling the Youth Services Department. Registration closes at 6 p.m. June 14.
Photographs by three Kent Roosevelt High School Seniors will be on display at the Library through the end of May. Anika Aberegg, Libby Bradford, and Audrey Coyne are students in Mike McClure’s Photography 3 class.
Coyne says that her collection shows off her best work, but also places to which she has a strong connection: her own backyard, downtown Kent, and Italy, where she traveled a year ago. Coyne will study photojournalism at the E. W. Scripps School of Journalism at Ohio University this fall.
A trip to Nicaragua inspired Aberegg’s collection. She says that she was particularly interested in taking photos of the people she met while on a teaching trip there, and she hopes that her audience will be able to relate to the faces in the photos. Aberegg will attend Ursuline College this fall and study special and elementary education.
Bradford also chose her best work for her collection, and notes that it reflects her love of nature and the outdoors. She approaches her subjects from unusual or unexpected angles in order to provide a unique perspective. Bradford will also attend the Scripps School of Journalism at OU this fall. More photos.
