Saturday, September 15 from 10:00 – 2:00 pm: Book Donation Day

Are you ready to free up your bookshelves for new books? The library always accept donations of books, dvds, and music CDs, and on September 15, you can donate from the comfort of your car!

Pull into the parking lot and look for the signs to pull up curb where Friends of Kent Free Library will retrieve your donations.

Items not added to the library’s collection will be gifted to the Friends for future book sales to raise funds for the benefit of the library.

Acceptable donations include popular hardback or paperback fiction, new (2 – 3 year old) non-fiction, children’s books, DVDs, CDs, and unabridged audiobooks on CD. The library cannot accept items in poor condition or that are dirty or mildewed, textbooks, magazines, encyclopedias, or cassette or VHS tapes.

Sunday, September 9 at 2:00 pm: Celtic Rush

Celtic RushEnjoy a free, all-ages concert with Celtic Rush, a traditional Irish band with a non-traditional twist.  The performance is on the 2nd Floor balcony so music can be enjoyed throughout the building. Limited seating is available on the balcony.

Celtic Rush is a group of friends who have enjoyed performing throughout Northeast Ohio and surrounding states. Blending fiddles, guitars, tin whistle, upright bass, mandolin, and Irish drum (bodhran), their music repertoire includes Irish and Scottish jigs, reels, hornpipes, waltzes and polkas, and even some unexpected non-traditional favorites.

Concerts are generously sponsored by the Friends of Kent Free Library.


Saturday, September 8: Kindermusik

Kindermusik Free Preview ClassAn instructor from Kindermusik will lead us through a 30-minute class with music and movement activities on Saturday, September 8 at 10:30 am for families with babies to 2 years old and at 11:15 am for Children ages 3 to 5 years old, independently.

Registration is required and begins September 1. Registration closes at 6:00 pm the Friday before the program. Space is limited.

Tuesday, August 28 at 7:00 pm: Youth Tech Lab

Tweens and teens in grades 3 through 12 are invited to join us in a tech lab! At this tech lab, you can test out coding robots, draw with a 3D printing pen and fly a drone.
Registration is required and begins on August 21. Registration closes the Monday before the event. Space is limited.

Monday, August 13: Fall Story Times Begin

The Kent Free Library’s 14-week Fall Story Time Session begins Monday, August 13. Six different story times will be offered for babies, preschoolers, and toddlers, and several story times are geared for all ages.

Story Times are led by professional librarians, all of whom have been trained in early childhood literacy.

No pre-registration is necessary for Story Times; arrive a few minutes early to pick up a “boarding pass.” Some sessions have limited space.
Additional programs, including puzzles, crafts, building and STEAM focused programs, Pokémon clubs, and reading clubs are offered through the week for children, tweens, and teens.

Monday, August 13 at 11:00 am: Pokemon Gym Retreat

Calling all Pokémonenthusiasts! If one hour of trading and battling is never enough, then this retreat is for you! Enjoy three hours with other Poké-friends at the library,where we will trade, battle, watch, and create all things Pokémon. A pizza lunch will be provided to all attendees.

Registration is required and begins August 6. 

Wednesday, August 8 at 7:00 pm: Nellie Dingley: A Librarian Goes to War

Enjoy a presentation about Nellie Dingley, one of the first Kent Free Library directors, presented by Roger Di Paolo in partnership with Kent Historical Society.

Tuesday, July 31 at 6:30 pm: Rockin’ Through History

Learn about how the Cleveland Rock and Roll Hall of Fame helps preserve and teach the history of rock and roll in this fun and informative presentation by Museum and Library & Archives staff

Learn what goes on behind the scenes of induction festivities and displays. They will delve into the exciting history of rock through the 50s and 60s and will highlight some of the services and resources they offer. This program is for adults.

Saturday, July 21 at 11:00 am: American Girl Spotlight on Josefina

American Girl fans in grades K-6 can celebrate all things Josefina! Bring your Josefina, other American Girl, or any other doll and learn more about Josefina’s time period.

Enjoy fun games and activities that Josefina herself would have enjoyed, including human- and doll-sized crafts (for dolls around 18” tall).

Saturday, July 14 at 11:00 am: The Bubble Lady

The Bubble Lady returns to show off her Wonderful World of Bubbles. Families with children of all ages will enjoy plenty of comedy and action and even get to participate. You will not believe your eyes when you see a person inside of a bubble!

Registration is not required for this free program, but since space is limited, boarding passes will be handed out starting at 10:30 am. For more information, contact Youth Services at 330.673.4414.
