Award winning local cartoonist and graphic novelist Derf Backderf kicks off Free Speech September by sharing his experience of having his book, My Friend Dahmer, banned. Backderf is an outspoken critic of book bans and challenges. Space is limited; pick up a ticket at the 2nd floor Information Desk starting at 6:30 pm. Adults 18+.
In observance of the Labor Day holiday, the library will be closed on Sunday, September 4 and Monday, September 5. As always when the library is closed, no items are due and no fines will be assessed on overdue materials.
For your convenience, items may still be returned using the drive through or the drop boxes to the left of the parking lot entrance.
Register online at the end of the month receive a Teen Book Box the following month. Book Boxes are for students in grades 9-12. Book Boxes can be picked up from the Dubois Children’s Reading room on September 1. Your Book Box will include library books for you to enjoy and return, and themed goodies for you to keep! Registration is required and begins Aug 25.
Are you looking for a way to share your voice, make new friends and get volunteer experience? Join Teen Leadership Council. Teen Leadership Council is for high school students in grades 9-12. Share your ideas for teen services, volunteer on special projects, and serve as an ambassador in your community. Members must be able to commit to meting once a month for one hour. Fill out an application online or come to the library to pick up an application. The deadline to submit applications is September 1. Meetings will be held on the second Thursday of each month from 7 to 8 p.m.
Students entering grades 6 through 12 are can join a Super Smash Brothers Tournament! Prizes will be awarded to the winners. Registration required, begins Aug 8.
