Long Overdue Materials and Outstanding Fines
Kent Free Library, as a member of the Portage Library Consortium, contracts with a collection agency, Unique Management Services, to assist in recovering outstanding overdue materials on the library’s behalf. Accounts will be turned over to the collection agency if the cost of replacing the long overdue material(s) (items not returned 60 days past the due date) plus any outstanding fines for the material(s) totals $50.00 or more.
Library users are notified by the library regarding overdue items via telephone or email when the items are overdue.
A $10.00 non-negotiable service charge will be added to each account sent for collection.
This action only effects the small percentage of library patrons who do not return materials.
To avoid being reported to Unique Management Services, sign up for email or text notifications the next time you visit the library; keep your check out receipts or monitor your account and renew your items online, by telephone, or in person; and use the after-hours return bins or the drive-thru return when the library is not open.
