Patrons of all ages are invited to participate in the 2020 Kent Free Library Pumpkin Showcase! Send a photo of your carved or decorated pumpkin to [email protected] by Friday, October 23, 2020 to enter. Include the participant’s full name (first and last), if the creator is an adult or child, and a phone number. All photo submissions will be showcased on the Kent Free Library’s social media during the week of October 26 – October 31, 2020.
If you’ve been saving your Acme receipts that show Community Cashback for purchases of selected products, now is the time to bring them in! Receipts must be dated on or before December 26 to be valid. We will continue to collect receipts for a few days after the 26th. Return receipts at the Check Out Desk.
Last year we earned $716.44, which helped expand our Board Game Collection!
When libraries closed due to the pandemic in March, SearchOhio also ceased operations. SearchOhio is a statewide service that connects dozens of libraries together in order to allow patrons access to over 10 million items. Patrons may search for items in the consortia catalog, place holds, and request to have materials delivered to their home library within a couple weeks.
SearchOhio is a great way to get items that are not available within the Portage Library Consortia, especially because it includes many large systems, including Cuyahoga County Public Library, Akron-Summit County Public Library, the Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County, Columbus Metropolitan Library, Warren-Trumbull County Library, the Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County, Toledo Public Library, and more.
On June 22, the library will transition from curbside pickup to Library Express service. We are excited to welcome the community back inside the library. During this phase, the building will reopen to the public with precautions in place to promote the continued safety of the community and library staff. Limited and essential library services will be available. This is the next step in our gradual return to full service.
9:00 to 10:00 am each day is reserved for senior citizens and other high-risk visitors.
Monday – Thursday 9:00 am – 8:00 pm
Friday 9:00 am – 6:00 pm
Saturday 9:00 am – 5:00 pm
The library will maintain curbside service for those uncomfortable entering the library. The drive-thru window will reopen for hold pick up.

To use Curbside Service, first, place the materials you would like on Hold. Holds may be placed using the library’s catalog or mobile app; by calling the library or emailing your requests to [email protected]; by using our new chat service, available in the lower right corner of our homepage during library hours; or using our new recommendations form, which is useful if you don’t have any specific titles in mind.
Second, watch your account or wait for a phone, email, or text notice that your holds are available. You have seven days from when you are notified to pick up your holds.
Third, arrive at the library at least 15 minutes before closing and park in one of the marked spaces in the parking lot. Call the library at 330-673-4414 option 5 and provide your name, last four digits of library card number, and parking spot number. Then open your trunk.
Once you are back in your vehicle, a library staff member will bring a bag with your holds to your vehicle and place them in the trunk. If your trunk is not open, staff will leave the bag next to your vehicle. For your safety, and the safety of our staff, we ask that you remain in your vehicle while staff is delivering your items. If you do not have a cell phone, please call before leaving home and provide an estimated time of arrival.
If you walk or bicycle to the library or ride the bus, wait by the bench to the right of the parking lot entrance and call the library. A staff member will bring your bag outside for you to retrieve once the staff member has reentered the building.
Please note that staff will not be able to accept your returns—please use the drive through or the return bins to the left of the parking lot doors. Staff also cannot accept money for fines at curbside; if you cannot come into the building, please pay fines using your online account at this time.
Summer Reading Adventure for All Ages
In case you haven’t recorded the reading you’ve done since June 15 yet, here are the rules:
The adventure is available for all ages, encourages contactless participation from home, and offers chances to enter raffle drawings for prizes. Reading records are available below for you to print at home. Prizewinners will be notified and may pick up prizes on or after August 1.
Three Easy Steps to Get Started:
- Print the appropriate Reading Record for each participant
- Start reading or listening
- Follow the directions on the reading record to enter grand prize raffles
Once you have printed your reading record, begin recording the amount of time you spend reading or that someone reads to you. Listening to audiobooks also counts!
Each space on the reading record equals ten (10) minutes of reading. Color one space for every ten (10) minutes spent reading. When a reader reaches the halfway point (600 minutes/10 hours) and completes the reading record (1,200 minutes/20 hours) they get to enter the grand prize raffle drawing. To enter the raffle, scan your completed reading record, or take a photo of the reading record, and email it to: [email protected] Completed entries may also be returned to the Summer Reading Adventure drop box when the library reopens.
Participants may complete one reading record from June 15-July 31. The final day to enter is July 31. Prizewinners will be notified on or after August 1, 2020.
