Services to Teachers
Youth Services Librarians are available to assist teachers in a variety of ways and we encourage teachers from the Kent City School District, local private schools, and early childhood centers to utilize the many resources of the public library and the knowledge and experience of our staff. Please call 330.673.4414 ext. 108 for more information about any of the following:
Class Visits and Library Tours
Come see us! The Youth Services Department of the Kent Free Library can schedule a library visit for your class. A librarian will show students the collection in the DuBois Children’s Reading Room, talk about Kent Free Library’s history, and provide information on special events and library resources. In addition, students will have time to ask questions and spend time reading on the train! When scheduling and staffing allow, librarians can also include a short story time, simple craft or tour of the building during the visit.
Can’t come to us? Let the library visit your classroom. The Youth Services Department is also available for outreach and can visit your classroom to instruct students on how to use our resources, do a story time or participate in a special event at your school.
Assignment Alert
Youth Services staff can also assist with school assignments. Contact us to inquire about the availability of items needed for an upcoming assignment or let us now about your assignments in advance so our staff is better equipped to help your students.

Teacher Loan Cards
Teachers may be eligible to receive a special Teacher Loan card. To apply, complete a library card application, present your personal library card and show proof of employment (such as an ID badge, paycheck or verification on school letterhead). Teachers may borrow library materials for six weeks at a time. No renewals are permitted. Teacher cards are fine free, but Teachers are responsible for any items that are lost, stolen or damaged. Popular AV materials and new adult fiction titles may not be checked out on a Teacher Loan card. The Youth Services staff reserves the right to limit quantities of all materials on Teacher Loan cards in order to best serve library users.
